Curriculum

Our professional instructors offer Portuguese classes in Houston for every level, from beginner to advanced, and the curriculum is designed to progress students through sequential blocks of classes. Here is our Curriculum:

Beginner 1 Levels
You will learn useful vocabulary and general situations of everyday communication as an starting point (e.g. greetings, numbers, hours, days of the week, months, seasons, food, colors, clothing, etc.) This will enable you to introduce yourself and ask and answer questions about personal details. Beginner 1, 1A and 1B levels focus on simple tenses, common regular and irregular verbs and daily facts and routines.

Beginner 2 Levels
You will be able to interact in a simple way provided the other person talks slowly and clearly, such as everyday tasks (shopping, ordering at restaurants, asking for locations, etc). Also, through reading, writing and interpretation of basic texts you will be able to describe people and situations with better tools like Compound Tenses and common expressions and idioms. Beginner 2, 2A and 2B encourage you to use Portuguese more openly in the classroom.

Beginner 3 Levels
The last three Beginner levels are focused on let you expand on routinary tasks and situations that require direct exchanges of information. You will be able to describe plans for the future, to read, produce and interpret more difficult texts from different sources and styles, and to use more communication tools such as familiar Brazilian Portuguese expressions. This will provide you a broader experience as a language student.

Intermediate 1 Levels
At these three levels you will explore and immerse in Brazilian culture using the Portuguese language, thus developing vocabulary and working with more complex sentence structures and grammar. You will understand the main points of a conversation; describe different experiences and events; express plans and expectations, and deal with situations associated with travelling in a country where the language is spoken.

Intermediate 2 Levels
You will understand the main idea of complex text in different topics, such as, word, travelling, study and leisure time. This way you will be able to interact with native speakers. Intermediate 2 Levels focus on expressing opinions and explaining view points on topical issues. You will be able to talk about history, arts, politics and economy. Our main goal here is to hold a conversation and construct sentences using more complex words and grammar.

Advanced 1
On this level it is assumed that students have archied all the basic, as well complex grammatical skills, and are able to use the language in a wider cutural complex. Here you will be able to express opinions and make complaints through short texts, emails and informal letters. Our Advanced 1 level lets you increase your vocabulary through reading informational texts in several, short or medium genres. You will be able to report experiences and expectations regarding gender, labor, money, education and the environment, leading to more complex conversations and enabling you to express negotiation points and other professional aspects of the language.

Advanced 2
At the end of our Curriculum you will be able to express ideas fluently, spontaneously and precisely, understand a wide range of demanding, longer text, and recognize implicit meaning, and speak Portuguese fluently in all kinds of situations (professional, academic, sports, cultural and educational). Our Advanced 2 course lets you improve listening through different kinds of media and brings you more ways to expand your knowledge after studying with us.
